I have been asked this question a few times and thought it would be good to post here to let any of my readers know as well.
Anyone who used to use Windows Mobile probably bragged about the ability to copy their work documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and then show them, do minor edits, and even with some WM devices, display them on a presentation screen (sometimes I miss my Jornada 720). With Windows Phone 7 that is not currently possible. For some reason, the only way you can access files you did not create on your phone currently is through accessing a SharePoint server. There is no built in File Explorer, there is no easy document transfer from desktop to phone, but don’t despair, there are a few options and here are a few that I have found:
- Easy File SE – allows you to open your files from a few different locations with IE.
- Hann File Transporter – boasts that you can directly transfer files to or from your computer and then open them with Office Mobile.
- Pocket Files – allows loading of documents (office docs, pdfs) from a DropBox account.
There are others out there, especially other DropBox utilities like Pocket Files.
Let me know if you find others or come up with one, I will be sure to post about it and let people know!
