Last night I finally got to do my first presentation in front of a group of developers at the East of Toronto .NET User Group meeting. While it was nerve-wracking at times, I wouldn’t have traded the opportunity for anything!
The topic was Windows Phone 7 Development: Consuming an oData Feed and I wasn’t quite sure what I was getting into when I agreed with Chris to do it in early December. I hadn’t worked with oData or the new System.Data.Services.Client namespace before and I had a little learning to do before the presentation.
I have to thank Chris Dufour for his help and for the opportunity to be a presenter. He says that he wasn’t messing with me with some of the things he did with the data feed, but I’m not too sure.
The group was great! I was very surprised at the turnout in Ajax even though it was a cold, snowy night! There was a great discussion after the presentation that saw us leaving the room at almost 11:00 that night. There were a lot of great questions, and even a great contest that goes on until March 15, 2011!!! Contact me to find out how you could win a year’s subscription to Code Magazine.
I was nervous enough to do the presentation, but then, at the last minute I found out that Kate Gregory was coming to watch! I have seen Kate speak at several events and have always been impressed by her style and ease in front of a crowd, so I was very aware that I would be presenting in front of a seasoned pro! To her credit, she didn’t laugh once, thank you Kate .

All in all, I think that the presentation went very well and everyone had fun and we all learned something. I also have heard from some of the attendees that I should watch out for some new Windows Phone 7 apps in the near future! I cannot wait until the next event, hope to see you all there.
